RILKO Summer Outing, Saturday 20th July 2019, to Tring, Hertfordshire
Meeting point and cost: to be advised
The RILKO Summer outing has been a traditional ‘fieldwork’ exercise for RILKO members since the late 1970s.
In recent years, visits have been made to Greenwich, to Waltham Abbey and last year to the market town of Royston, in north east Hertfordshire. These three sites lie on the ‘Greenwich Meridian’, as described in the book “Axis of Heaven”, by Paul Broadhurst & Gabriele Trso, which was reviewed in the RILKO Journal number 91.
On Saturday 20th July this year, the RILKO Council are planning a visit to the town of Tring and its environs. Like Royston, this market town in north west Hertfordshire also sits on the famous Michael/Mary line, which skirts the Bucks/Beds escarpment as the line passes east, through Royston, to Bury St Edmunds and on to the sea. This quiet area still holds some secret gems for RILKO questers.
